What To Do While Camping in the Heat

We finally made it! We went camping in the new trailer! Unfortunately, it was 99° when we decided to spend the ENTIRE day outside.

The campground is close - that's the good thing. The campground has very few shady areas to park a trailer - that's the bad thing.

Here are some things you can do when it's 99° in the shade:

Sit with your dog in the middle of the road

Watch the park rangers capture an abandoned dog - using our bacon as bait!

Sit around a fire (what were we thinking?)

All in all, it was a positive experience (nothing like cooking three pounds of bacon for four kids to make them happy). The air conditioner worked. We played Yahtzee, cards, football, and told silly ghost stories.

The kids want to go camping again this weekend. But, we're going to go somewhere with trees and shade this time.

We're Finally Going!

We've had the camper for a month and we're finally going to use it! Yeah!!! Being in a camper isn't exactly roughing it, but we will be smashed and are not sure how much "togetherness" we can take.
We have the menu planned, and there are just a few more things to buy. We've decided to take the dog, so he'll be getting new food and water bowls just for the trailer. Also, since we'll probably be hiking (although there's some debate on whether or not a 5 minute walk constitutes a hike) the dog will need something to drink out of that is not a human hand.

The beds were made before we parked the trailer, but the girl needs someplace to sleep. Right now there are two boys in one big bed, one boy in a small bunk bed, mom and dad in a big (not really that big) bed and nowhere for the girl to sleep. A few weeks ago at IKEA we found a sale mattress that should fit in a little space by mom and dad's bed. We're planning to make it all pretty and pink so that the girl will want to sleep there. Here's hoping that she likes her space, cause there's really no other place besides mom and dad's bed, and we all know there's not enough room.

Since there was a forest fire in a near by state park earlier this week, we've decided not to have an outdoor fire. The fire bug boy and the cute little dimpled boy were both looking forward to cooking various foods over an open fire, but they were placated by the promise of lots of bacon. It's amazing the amount of cooperation 3 pounds of bacon will buy you. I can always just knit them an barbecue!
So, today is dedicated to buying dog bowls, something to carry the soap and other stuff to the bathroom and figuring out how in the world you can air dry towels in the space of two elevators. Would it be tacky to put up a clothesline?
